With the close of filing for candidates in North Carolina at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 29, several contested offices promised to make this election season leading up to the May 8 primaries a lively one.
Bill Luton of Weeksville in Pasquotank County filed this week as a Democratic candidate for the NC House of Representatives seat being vacated by Bill Owens, who is not seeking re-election.
NC Sen. Stan White (D-Dare) has officially declared his candidacy to retain his District 1 seat in the NC Senate. Sen. White made his announcement at the Dare County Democratic Party general meeting held in Kill Devil Hills on Jan. 30. During his remarks at the Democratic Party gathering, White thanked his family for their on going support during his first term in the NC General Assembly. He also expressed his gratitude to the Democratic Party for giving him the opportunity to serve in the NC Senate.
